The anguana is a creature linked to water, with characteristics in part similar to those of a nymph and typical of Alpine mythology. Generally the anguane are represented as nature spirits similar to the nymphs of the Roman world (probable original model of the myth), whose characters very often merge with those of the undines and other figures of Germanic and Slavic mythology (the rusalki in particular).
